Why don't you get a copy of his marriage cert.
If he was married in NZ it will give his parents names

I am descended from Lamonts but don't think they are the same family as yours
My great grandmother was Mary Lamont . She married Robert Cairns in 1875 and came to Oamaru.
Mary was born in Antrim but was married in Glasgow.
Her much younger sister Maggie born 1865 in Antrim also came to NZ and married ? Frew in 1886 on her 21st birthday.
