Subject: Plea for Meaningful Subjects

May I make a plea for those who respond to list messages, especially those who
use the Digest mode, to check that the subject of their reply message is
apposite and intelligible.

It is extremely irritating to download a series of individual messages from the
list with the subject (often generated automatically) such as "Re: LANARK-D
Digest V98 #102", or worse still, "Re: Re: LANARK-D Digest V98 #102".

Since those of us who take messages as they come have no knowledge of the
digests such headings are utterly meaningless. I for one tend to delete such
messages as irritating rather than read them. Remember that the Subject line
is critical to getting a response to list messages. Choose the right
attractive words and you may get more and better responses.

Yours aye,

Iain in Windsor, Berkshire
