Subject: LDS History and emigration

My ancestors, George Wilson (b. 1815 in Barony) and Janet Collins (b.
1823 in Hamilton) joined the LDS church 1852. They immigrated to
Wyoming, U.S.A in about 1875 with their children and their children's
families. I believe George was a coal mine, and doubt that he had
funds to pay for the move.

Knowing that the LDS church paid the voyage costs for members wishing
to immigrate, I tried to find my ancestors on these lists and had no
success. I am now looking for other sources of funding. Did the
government pay to help people emigrate? Did they keep records?

Is anyone familiar with a good history of the LDS church in Scotland?
I am looking for a good reference book or article. I wish to learn
who joined the church based on social status, wealth status, age,
etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Brooks M. Wilson
