hello all,
I,m researching the Allison family from in and around Strathaven and
also from Ayr, I have details on the family back to around 1760 or so
and wonder if the following is of use to anyone?
Alexander Allison b circa 1760 married Agnes Allison in Stonehouse
1785, on Alxr's
marriage cert he is noted as " Alexander Allison of Muirhead" we presume
that he had some sort of local status ( he was noted as a parish elder
in 1802) It is not know whether he was some sort of relative to Agnes (
apart from husband that is) at this time
between 1768 and 1806 Alexander and Agnes produced some 6 offspring
although not all survived, they were:-
Catherine b 1786
William b 1789
Catherine b 1791
John b 1794
John b 1802
Alexr b 1806
Alexander's son ( also called Alexr) married Euphemia Blackwood b1813 at
Avondale in 1833, Euphemia's parents were John Blackwood and Jean
Halbert, they also had six children:
Alexander 1834
Jean 1836
Thos 1838
William 1840
James 1847
Agnes 1849
William Allison, a blacksmith by trade, moved to glasgow sometime in the
1850s (presumably to work in the shipyards) he married a glasgow girl
Margt Boyd, Margt's
parents were John Boyd a cattle dealer/butcher and margaret west, the
marriage took place in 1862 and a couple of years later Alexander their
first child was born, children are:
Alexander b 1864
Euphemia b 1868
John Boyd b 1871
William b 1866
Robert b 1879
Thos Blackwood 1873
some time, between 1864 and 1866 Alexander and family moved to
Irvine,Ayr. All the children with the exeption of Alexander, were born
in Irvine.
Alexander b.1864 was a cabinet maker by trade and around the end of the
1880s he left Irvine for London (presumably as part of his passage from
Apprentice to Journeyman) He married Lydia Honeyball in 1892 in
Bow,London, Lydia's parents were Barnabas and Maria Honeyball and owned
a dairy.
Alexander and Lydia also had six children, the eldest being
Euphemia b1894
Alexander William b 1896
Lydia
Lily
Jessie
Agnes
Hope that some of this may be of interest to somebody, I've done
extensive research on the Allison's and am only too pleased to compare
and swap notes
thanks mark allison
