IF your family is related to Coats Thread manufacturers, all the main
thread companies including Coats began in Paisley, Renfrewshire,
Scotland. Any history of Paisley usually includes a fair amount of
background on Coats. Your B/M/D researches (aside from using your direct
line back references) should include Paisley and Renfrewshire. I had
correspondence with a Coats family member some time back. I have some
book references. Go to the LDS centers for the Scottish Parish Register
CD index. Go to the Renfrewshire Surname Index for anyone researching
Coats specifically.
