Subject: glasgow coal mines?

Hi all-

I am trying for find my great great great grandfather in the 1841 Glasgow
census. His name was John Duff and he was probably a miner or a collier.
He married a woman who's name is Jean McMillan and they had at least one
son, John Duff jr., born circa 1834 in Glasgow, as the later 1871 census
indicated.

Now, my question is which sub-region in Glasgow would I be likely to find a
mine and hence, miners in the 1840's. I will then search that part of the
1841 Glasgow census for my elusive ancestors. Today, I searched one of the
eight films for the Glasgow 1841 census and discovered that I was reading
the names of all the sailors in port at the time of the census was taken.
None of them would be my ancestors, so it was quite frustrating to me not
to make better use of my time.

I hope someone out there knows which region of Glasgow to look, or better
yet even which film # to order to find these miners of old.

Thank you for reading this.

Sincerely,
Bob Duf
