Subject: [LKS] Bridge of Weir, west of Glasgow
Date: Wed, 06 Nov 2002 08:45:27 -0500
I was reading about the Bridge of
Weir, West of Glasgow, on a message board. My family were Weirs from
Lesmahagow,
Lanarkshire, Scotland, and was wondering what the Bridge of Weir
looked
like. Is there a history about it or the builders or a known
reason why
it was called the Bridge of Weir?
My ancestor was a William Weir in the Parish of Hamilton, who in 1794,
who married Mary Lewers from Lesmahagow. 6 children were born
somewhere, other than Woodyett Farm in Lesmahagow. The last two were
born on the farm.
The eldest son was George Weir, I presume named after William's father
according to the Scottish Method of Naming Children. The son George
Weir married a Susannah Smith in 1832.
The question is Which George Weir was William Weir's father, and where
was William Weir born?
Who was the wife of George Weir, and mother of William Weir?
Carol
