Janice/Gordon,

Halshaw Moor is part of Farnworth on the Manchester (south-east side of
Bolton) - the station on the main Bolton-Manchester railway line used to be
called Farnworth and Halshaw Moor. Tottington is more to the east of Bolton
out towards Bury. Whilst the two villages are not exactly next door to each
other they are fairly close, certainly close enough for travel to be easy
between them even in the 1700s and 1800s.

Janice,

I have checked my notes for ISHERWOOD and I cannot find a link with your
ISHERWOODs.

I am 'stuck' with one ISHERWOOD: James ISHERWOOD born circa 1806 at Halshaw
Moor Farnworth. He married Mary OAKES in Stockport Cheshire in 1830. Most of
their family were born in Droylsden as was subsequent generations. However,
there were migrations to Ashton-u-Lyne, about two miles away. James ISHERWOOD
died in 1874.

I have not checked for the proximity of Tottington, but if it is near Halshaw
Moor, there could be a link in earlier generations. I will try and check this
out. I will keep your notes in my Lancashire file for future reference.

Regards,

Gordon Self
