Subject: HELP!!! I'm new at this!!! - surname GERRARD
Date: Tue, 12 Aug 97 09:41:09 PDT
Hi,
I've just found (and joined) LANCSGEN. I started trying to trace my family
tree a whole week ago. So far all I've found out is that it seems you
actually have to be physically present to get info out of most of the
places!! I'm currently living in Cape Town, South Africa - so popping down
to the local records office isn't exactly an option. Unfortunately with the
current exchange rate hiring someone to do the research for me is also out
of the question!!! Can anyone out there give me any ideas on how I should
go about this.......... PLEEEEZ!!
I'm searching for the GERRARD family, as far as I know mostly round
Blackburn, Guide - but I believe there were a few in Blackpool as well. My
grandfather was ROBERT GERRARD who married ETHEL WILKINSON, they lived in
Guide (near Belthorn), he was the youngest of 16 children. Of the 16
children I think only about 3 had children. My father is BRIAN GERRARD who
married MARGARET ??? and had a daughter HEATHER, he then married JOAN
BENNETT and had me, SAMANTHA. I have a son DANE GERRARD.
If anyone can help me with any info that they might have, or know where I
can look, I'd REALLY appreciate it.
If anyone out there is looking for South African records, maybe we can do a
'swop' - I could look things up over here in return for getting info from
the UK???? Just a suggestion - but it might work!!!!!
Thanx 4 listening!!
Sam de Villiers (nee Gerrard)
