To all who use a genealogy programme
This has little to do do with Lancashire as such, but I have been wondering
what others do about dates prior to 1750 for UK ancestors. These dates will
of course be wrong for calculating ages etc. if one date is Julian and the
other is Gregorian, as PCs are only aware of the Gregorian Calendar. I only
realised the problem this would cause when I recently discovered an ancestor
who was born 8 April 1742 who had a brother born 11 Mar 1742. My genealogy
programme insists that the child born in March is older when of course he is
younger.
So what does one do about this anachronism? Do you ignore it or convert
Julian dates to Gregorian (Is there a utility to do this?) or do you make a
note somewhere that a date is Julian?
