I find the best solution is still PAF plus DESCEND. You hold the data in
PAF and use Descend for printouts. This gives a decendants charts of
individuals including notes, with a name-index, and it has one other
outstanding feature, namely, it never repeats a sequence of descendants.
Intstead it prints a message like "Descendants already printed - see page
..." The output comes on sequential sheets and there is no need for gum or
a huge kitchen table. You can bind them in a book if you like, as I have
done. You can also stop after a specified number of generations.

First you make a list of all your "line-headers" as I call them: that is,
all the early people without any ancestors. This can, of course, be a
complete or partial list. Then you feed their Record Identification Numbers
(RINs) into Descend and go and have a nice cup of tea. When you get back
you will find a lovely fat printout containing just what you want: all the
descendants of all your earliest ancestors, with notes, plus index. There's
glory for you!

Presently Descend only works with PAF 2.31 and earlier versions, but I am
told that a new proprietor has taken over Descend and a PAF 3.0 version is
on the stocks and should be ready real soon now.

My only gripe is that PAF 3.0 is STILL not a Windows program. This seems to
be a deliberate policy, as was King Canute's.
