Walter,
How are you sir. I read your responce to this census question and agree with
you. Tis a struggle we all share I think, should one share the information
and face abuse and exploitation or should we keep it to ourselfs which has no
redeaming value. I often wounder how public I should get my research now that
the work I am doing has come to include artifacts and photos. I recently came
upon a small cash of civil war memeoribilia that I wish I could share, but am
aprehensive as to givng it to the masses and having it all distroyed....such
perplexing questions. I often times have to remember the how and why I got
myself in this mess to start with..LOL.
Well on to other thoughts, I hope that you are well and was hoping you could
shed some guidence to me on my never ending search of my great g g g
grandfather Joseph Pomfret (Pompherit is a common misspelling). I have
searched and sent for every concevable record to locate where he died. In all
the possable locations in the United States I can find no death record in any
spelling of the name. He was born in England 1786, and lived around the
Preston area it is believed. He died at a unkown location, I now believe he
may have went back to England and died Dec 5, 1876. I have just discovered
that he had a young girl named Catherine Pomfret b 1834, d June 6, 1844 who
died in England from all that I can tell. I have found some listings on the
IGI concerning christing record that could be those of his childern Thomas and
John at St Johns in Preston. I am woundering is you could offer to me
sugestions of cemeterys that would have been old enough in the Preston area
that I could search? I have had two researchers over there and one in
particular made the mistake of looking for a specific grave, I guess most of
the old graves are in bad shape, I hear its best to look for a paper trail
instead. Any thoughts or sugestions would be most apreciative. If you ever
need anything done in the states please do not be afraid to ask. I think I
owe you several by now....
Have a great day
Rich Barnum
