Hi

Another method of using the ARJ program if you already have winzip (shareware
or otherwise), you only have to follow this method once, and for any future
arj files you have can open them with Winzip.

I loaded my Arj.exe program from -

http://www.ozemail/com.au/~lasoft/

From this page take the download files option and choose the ARJ.exe program
you require, either 16 bit or 32 bit for Windows 3.1 or 95. Download it,
making a note of where it is on your hard drive. You then need to open your
Winzip program, go to the options menu and choose program locations you will
find a choice of optional programs, go to the ARJ line and type in the path to
your ARJ.exe file, eg

C:\Program files\ARJ\ARJ.exe (this is my location)

This may seem complicated, but well worth it, as you only need to do this
once and in future if you load any arj files Winzip will automatically run
ARJ.exe for these files. It also avoids the necessity of closing to dos, every
time you need to run ARJ.

Your Winzip program will now be able to unzip your ukc-Lan.arj census files.

This works for me ;-)

One other tip, the files open with word pad or note pad in Windows 95, use the
find feature in these programs to search for names, it cuts down on the on
the eye strain!!

In a message dated 02/02/98 22:14:11 GMT, you write:

The ARJ files.

If you download the files and only have a shareware version of WinZip,
you'll need to download a program to uncompress the arj files. (I found
this by using Yahoo search engine and searching for compression and arj
(200.4K):
http://home.bigblue.no/ek/ekbackup/
I had more success with arj230.exe rather than arj250a.exe versions.
These are dos programs so I shutdown the machine to run in dos (for Win95).
But there is a trick to first using the program.
For arj230.EXE only:
The downloaded program is arj230.exe.
So type in arj230 at the dos prompt.
At the continue extraction? prompt you enter: arj230 -t
At the Yes, No, Quit prompt you enter: y
To then run the program you then type: arj e filename
where filename is that which you downlaoded,
eg. the glamorgan census is ukc_gla.arj

Hope this helps
