I had a bit of time when I was in Birkenhead yesterday (30th) on my way to the agm of
Tranmere Rovers and so I nipped into Borough Road Library to look a few Gore's
directories for you. Essentially the results were negative on Lilley Ellis LOW but I
noted the following in Birkenhead for you:

1880 - Alexander LOW, resident secretary Scottish National Fire & Life Insurance Co., 34
Alfred Road, Claughton
- offices 2 Victoria Chambers, 40 Castle Street, Liverpool
1882 - as in 1880 but residence now Lowville, Borough Road, Birkenhead (no copy of 1881
held)
1885 - Alexander LOW, insurance & commission agent, Lowville, Devonshire Park, Borough
Road, Tranmere
- offices 7 Moorfields, Liverpool
1891 - as in 1885 but residence now 22 Marlborough Road, Tuebrook, Liverpool
1892 - as in 1891 - n/t of Low in Birkenhead
1893 - as in 1891 - David LOW, tailor & draper, 122 Market Street, Birkenhead
1894 - as in 1891 - n/t of Low in Birkenhead
1895 - as in 1891 - n/t of Low in Birkenhead
1900 - Mrs Mary J Low, 22 Marlborough etc
- William LOW, butcher, 8 Clwyd Street, Birkenhead
1905 - as in 1900 - n/t of Low in Birkenhead
1910 - Mrs Mary J Low, 22 Marlborough etc
- Mrs Alfred Jas. Low, beer retailer, 9 Old Bidston Road, Birkenhead

You did me a favour as I dropped Upton an entry for my gg grandfather and his daughter in
Liverpool that I hadn't seen before - they were shopkeepers but the entry this year
identified them as tobacconists which I had not known.

I wonder if some kind person would be good enough to check the 1891 Greater
Liverpool and/or Birkenhead Directories for a Lilley Ellis LOW. Lilley was
with his parents in Birkenhead in 1881, but not with them at West Derby in
1891. He may have married, and remained in Birkenhead or moved to
Liverpool.

Any assistance will be appreciated.
