Hiya Caroline,
I write to ask a question. Do you know how prevelant the BURTON name
was in Lancashire?
My KAY ancestors gave their children middle names and two such names
were STANLEY & BURTON. Now I know that Stanley is also a christian
name, but I thought BURTON was purely a surname. The surname STANLEY is
a famous name in Lancashire - haven't discovered exactly why as yet, but
there are roads and things in Preston, Lancs, named after a Lord (or
Earl) Stanley, something like that anyway. Not too good with royalty!!!
Anyway, just curious as to why the name BURTON should be used as a
christian name. It wasn't his mother's maiden name, that was
RICHARDSON and his paternal grandmother's name was NICHOLSON.
Any ideas?
