My experience with the Wigan Registrar's Office is that certificates are
sent BY RETURN OF POST!!! They are quite amazing - I had all the details,
and it was for their area; I phoned to ask if they were the right people to
send my money and request to, and received an extremely helpful and pleasant
reply. He said, "We'll send it by return of post" and I thought "Mm, so
it'll take about a week then". I sent my cheque one day, they got it the
next, and I had my certificate on the following day. They are WONDERFUL (and
so is the good old Post Office, for delivering a First Class service).

I can't guarantee that other Registrar's Offices are as good, of course ..
