Hi Listers,
I think one reason could be that a lot of these regiments
were family regiments.In the fifties we had a Brummie lad(somebody from
Birmingham)in our Lancashire regiment which was very unusual.The reason was
that his father had served in the regiment in the 2nd World War .So perhaps
he had a connection with that regiment in one way or another.
