Hello Tony (Owen),
Your book , Cotton Mills in Greater Manchester, sounds most fascinating. My
direct forebear was a Cotton Manufacturer in/near Stockport and wonder if
your book covers that area. His name was Joseph John MOODY. He and his
wife and family were in
the district in the early 1800's and left for Australia in 1854. He named
one of his sons OSLAND and despite the fact that we have no idea where the
name comes from (can't find it as a former surname) it continues through the
male line today!! There has been a suggestion that OSLAND was the name of a
mill and I'd be most appreciative if you'd check that theory out for me in
your book. With thanks, Robin in Australia
