Subject: [LAN] Missing Surname on marriage certificate
Date: Wed, 1 Sep 1999 22:28:48 +0100

Several years ago I obtained a copy marriage certificate of my ancestors
James Bulcock and Susannah Duckworth. They were married at St. Thomas's
Church, Blackburn on 14th September 1872.

I have never been able to locate Susannah's birth details; her age was given
as 24 at the time of her marriage, she was a spinster living at 45
Furthergate, Blackburn, and her father was Thomas Duckworth, Agent.

I have had the details from the 1881 census for a while, and cannot
understand why there is a Robert Bolton (brother in law) living with James
Bulcock's family.

A few days ago I decided to re-file all my ancestry documents, and a
compliment slip from Blackburn Register Office fell out from behind the
above marriage cert.

It states "Re-marriage. Please note the Minister missed off Susannah
Duckworth's surname on registration. We can only copy what is in the
register."
I have to confess I never took any notice of this when I received it.

If Susannah was a spinster, how can this be a re-marriage? Does anyone know
how I can find out further details? Does anyone have access to the 1871
census for Blackburn who could tell me who was living at 45 Furthergate?

Lots of questions - I hope someone has an answer for me!

Chris Wright,
Southport.
