Thanks to Roger, Lesley, Marg, and Mary Lou who sent me details of the family of John and Betty Brooks from the 1881 census (which I don't have access to).

Even though there is no Rochdale connection, it is certainly worth following up, and I will do so. The age for George is not quite right but close enough, given the uncertainties of 19th century records.
