As I understand it - this is the case.
Confirmation of this is drawn from a letter to my grandmother from the
Passport Office in 1968 as she was leaving for Australia.
I have never checked this out for any of my earlier ancestors because they
were all 'stay-at-homes'.
I am sure that there are people on this list who can provide more accurate
information.
