marriages that didn't eventually happen, and some interesting margin

Hi,
Could this be the reason why I cannot find a marriage between Julia/Juliana
WARD & William DIXON?

I searched the indexes and only found a JULIA WARD marrying a Daniel NUTTAL
(then Nuttal was crossed out and LUCKMAN was inserted) Mind you this was at
St John's Church, Salford in 1866. But if they can make mistakes at the
Cathedral they could have done the same at St John's---couldn't they?
Clutching at straws again.
