I have been advise to contact this list to see if anyone has interests in
the area of Whitefield, Prestwich, Lancashire. My particular name of
interest appears not to have been recorded as yet and may possibly be quite
some years before it is done. It has been suggested to me that some kind
person on this list may do a lookup for me and it would certainly be
appreciated.
I have a Hugh BRATCHIE born in Wigan about 1836-1837. In December 1860 he
was aged about 24. His father, David BRATCHIE was deceased at time of
marriage. It is said that the name may have been BRADSHAW and was changed
later for some reason as yet unknown.
Doing an estimated guess I looked for a David BRADSHAW in the area of
Lancashire, via the IGI, and found this name listed as born 21 Dec 1817 and
christened 1 Feb 1818 Whitefield, Prestwich, Lancs., Eng.
Both David and Hugh were miners and at least one of them was illiterate. I
owuld appreciate it if someone does try to look for them that they look for
both the names of BRADSHAW and BRATCHIE.
