Both do - Cases Street forms the eastern side of Clayton Square, which
is just up the road from Church Street, and down from Lime Street.
Miss Sarah Clayton and Mrs Margaret Case were sisters - their father (MP
for Liverpool) William's, their brother William's, and his widow
Elizabeth's wills are in the Lancs. Record Office, Preston. They were
prominent in Liverpool and St Helens - and in the promotion of the
Sankey Brook Navigation (see our website).
Sarah was Lady of the Manor at Parr Hall, St. Helens.
Margaret married Thomas Case of Red Hazels, Huyton, and their son Thomas
joined Sarah C. in her coal firm.
Further details on them are in the reprint of Prof. TC Barker's study on
the Sankey which our Society has reprinted (not sure if we have
copies... it's due for its 3rd reprint).
The canal's Engineer, Henry Berry (Berry St. Liverpool) was also from
Parr - his gravestone is outside the newish URC church in St. Helens
town centre.
