In 1920 my mother was a mill worker and she used to go to Blackpool for
the week. A group would go together and buy a season ticket for the
Pier to go dancing each night and on the last day they pooled their
money and went to the amusement park for the day.

There were resorts all along the west coast that were the destination of
the wakes week crowds.
