Terry,
The best source is the following excellent web page.
http://www.burmastar.org/
As far as I can tell most of the forces that served in Burma
spent time in India for R&R. I know my father did.
Your ancestor was probably part of the Chindits. They wore quite
distinctive hats as part of their uniform. Do you have any other
information ?
I have seen the badge you mention but I can't remember
what it was for (how helpful ?)
If my brain recovers I'll let you know.
All the best
Tom Bradshaw

Subject: [LAN] What Regiment ?
G'day,
I am trying to find what regiment one of my ancestors served with
during the second world war, I have little information other than the fact
he served in India and maybe in Burma with the British Army. I have a fabric
badge of the type that was sown on a uniform, it is damaged but from what I
can make out it is a white key and a white spade [I think its a spade,
that's the part that is damaged]. They are crossed like you get crossed
swords and they are on a black background. The whole badge would be no more
than 1.75" x 1.75" square.
Any ideas are more than welcome.
All the best,
Terry Craven
