I have quite a few births and marriages that I just cannot find on the BMD
index fiches. I must admit that most I have not gone as far as 20 years
either side but I am beginning to wonder if many births and marriages were
just never registered? I suppose some marriages could never have been
formalised but with births there is usually an age from the census which
should not be more than a few years out.
The most annoying is my Grandmother's mother, she is shown (on the 1881
census) as born in Chester about 1848. This should be the easiest to find
with the online access to Cheshire but I can find no trace of her.
