Hi,
appologies as this will be a longish message as I'm running myself in
circles over this.......
I have an ancestor called James BESWICK who married Elizabeth CLOUGH in 1871
at St. John's, Longsight. His father is shown on the MC as Thomas BESWICK
and his age is 21 and his residence as Gorton.
In the 1881 CD census transcript James is living in Gorton with his wife,
his age is 30 and his birthplace is shown as Hurst.
The 1851 census (HO107/2238 folio 431) seems to have James born at Ashton in
1850.
The IGI shows a James BESWICK, son of Thomas and Sarah, christened in May
1850 in Gorton.
Searching through the "St. Cath's" indices there are several possible matchs
for James but none were born in Hurst. Broadening my search to cover a wider
area the only James BESWICK birth to a Thomas Beswick was in 1851 in Ashton
Under Lyne.
The mother of the James born in Ashton Under Lyne is a Sarah.
How can I find the birth of "my" James BESWICK with confidence that I have
the correct one?
Thanks for reading and any help,
Tigger, Warrington
