Subject: [LAN] Jno. for John - why it is so!!!!

I think we have gone over this before, but the original abbrevation
Jno. was short for Johannes, the Latin form of John, used in official
records hundreds of years ago. Jas was short for Jacobus, the Latin
form for James. Jos. was short for Josephus, the Latin form of
Joseph.

Diana, in a cold and crisp Ontario, Canada.

PS Don't believe it was ever used as a short form for Jonathan,
which was never popular enough to warrent a standard abbreviation -
and came into more common use with the Protestant movement, after the
usage of Latin died out!
