Hello listers,

I am rejoining after being away researching my roots in Ashton in Makerfield.

My gggrandfather William COTTAM was married to Ellen Littler at Ashton in 1849.
Looking through the 1841 census I have found two Williams born about 1828 to 1830 and am trying to determine which is my ancestor.
William COTTAM b1828/1829 father James.
William COTTAM b1830/1831 mother Ann.
Thanks to Stan of Ashton I know of another,
William COTTAM b1830/1831 father Thomas.

My William had died before the 1881 census, but that census does show:-
William COTTOM b1829 Ashton but resident in Warrington.

Can any kind lister rule out any of these three, or perhaps know of some other way of finding out which is my ancestor?
