Hi, Kathryn,
You asked
> Can anyone tell me the denomination of the following churches all in Preston, All
Saints, St George The Martyr, St Mary's?
The first two are Anglican (Church of England), St. George the Martyr was founded in
1725 and All Saints in 1846.
St.Mary's is a bit more difficult. There was a Catholic Chapel on the west side of
Friargate in the early in the 1700s and possibly early in the 1600s. This was known
as St. Mary's. This chapel survived, though sometimes re-built and sometimes not
used, until the 1990s when it was closed and demolished. In 1826 a Chapel of Ease to
St. John was built on the east side of the town and dedicated to St. Mary. I believe
it is still in use and is on St. Mary's Street. Then in 1889 a church was built in
Ribbleton dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene.
Guessing, it is probably the middle one to which you refer.
Details of all the churches in Preston are given in a book "Preston Churches and
Chapels" by T.R. Flintoff, Carnegie Press, 1985.
Hope this helps
