Dear Listers,

When I was a little girl in Eden St, Astley Bridge, I could see the half spire of St Matthews church in Halliwell from my bedroom window. I say half spire, because the top portion had become unsafe and was pulled down. Around 1996 the church was pulled down completely, due to rot in the timbers. A more modern design of church was built in its place.

But its the old church that I am interested in. Our family had a long history of marriages, christenings and funerals at that church, and I would like a picture of it for my family history file.

I have tried to google for it, but although I can find St Matthews at Little Lever, I cannot find an old photograph of St. Matthews at Halliwell.

Does anyone have any ideas? Or is there SKS out there with an old photo which includes St. Matthews at Halliwell which they wouldn't mind scanning in and emailing to me?

Thank you very much,
Sylvia Wilcox
