Hi List,
I've recently received a birth certificate for someone I think is a distant rellie; these are the details; -
John CRITCHLEY, born 11 March 1861, at Scotch Row, Eccleston, son of William CRITCHLEY, Coal miner, and Eliza CRITCHLEY, formerly KNOWLES.
I think that this William CRITCHLEY was the brother of my g-g-grandfather Samuel CRITCHLEY, but I would need his marriage certificate to check this, and so far I can't find a marriage for William and Eliza.
I do have their census entry for 1861, which shows that William was born about 1832 and Eliza about 1834, both in St Helens. By 1861 they had three children; Martha CRITCHLEY b about 1853, and Ellen CRITCHLEY born about 1858, as well as John CRITCHLEY shown above.
By 1881, they have four other lads - Samuel, David, James, and Edward CRITCHLEY; Samuel was born in Skelmersdale, but all the others were from St Helens. I haven't been able to find the family in Skelmersdale or St Helens in 1871.
Does anyone else have a connection with any of these folk ?
Cheers,
Rosalind.
