I have just being looking at the 1871 census and found a couple of my clan. However I have no idea what the occupations mean.

They are

John 36 Lamp Tremmer Royal Navy

Thomas 34 2r Inr Royal Navy

Hope someone can help because I have no idea.

I looked up GenDoc and the closest I could find was Trammer - a young man who works in a mine.
I don't know a great deal about the navy in the 1800's but I'm pretty sure they didn't have mines.
