Pauline,
Many Thanks.
The William HOLDEN marriage is the same date as the certificate I have. So it appears as if an error has occuurred in the transfere of the record at some time, so thet the name became William HOLDING.
The other marriages
The William GRIMSHAW seems to be the correct one for the William and Alice Longworth that I have in my family.
The George HOLDEN might be the brother of William HOLDEN, but who knows it is such a common name in thet area.

Barry

Hi Barry,
I have had a look at St Marys marriage records and have found the following marriages. Unfortunately, they are still under the old format so no parents names showing. They would on the Registrars certificate.

Page 338, number 1014
Wiliam HOLDEN, batchelor and weaver of this Parish to Betty Longworth, spinster of this Parish were married in this Church by Banns with Consent on the first day of January in the year 1841 by me, Thomas Sharples.
William Holden signed his name and Betty signed with her mark.
Witnesses were Joseph Fairbrother and Thomas Lindsey.
(Joseph Fairbrother signed as a witness for most marriages so must have been a clerk in the church)

Page 412, number 1234,
William Grimshaw, batchelor and ?? of this Parish to Alice Longworth, spinster of this parish
were married by me, ?Walker? on 14.1.1844
Both made a mark
Witnesses, John Pilkington and ???
John Pilkington signed for most marriages.

On the same page was
George Holden. batchelor and Spinner, married Agnes Ashton, Spinster on 15.12.1844
George Holden signed, Agnes made her mark
Witnesses Joseph ?? and John Pilkington.

The pages are not very clear, sorry.

If you want copies of these pages, let me have a snail mail address and I will send them to you.

If you get the Registrars certificates, write to Blackburn Registrars Office, Jubilee Street, Blackburn, Lancs. The cost is £7.oo. You don't need a number but give them the Church and the bride and groom. Give fathers names if known but not necessary. They are very good.

I did look for Berry Street again but with no luck.
Best wishes,
Pauline in Darwen
