The Rootschat site seems to work quite well, it is run from Lancashire but
covers all areas and has participants around the world.

I have had some useful help there. As everywhere there are some strange
people, I was contacted to let me know that someone was asking about my
family. I posted numerous detailed replies to his lookup requests but never
got any replies apart from a personal message that I sent him and even then
it was only a very brief reply. As far as I can see he does all his
"research" by asking for lookups on Rootschat and only reads reply to his
recent requests. Very odd!
