Just a wee bit more on this, since my curiosity was pricked (I have Whittles and Heatons, though not from Bolton area). Google "Lancashire BMD", and you'll see quite a lot of info available before investing in copies of registers and such. It certainly looks like at least a couple of your people are readily findable, though you'd need to pull certificates to check they are the right ones. Bolton and area is pretty well covered. Lancashire OPC has descriptions of e.g. Breightmet, but not registers for many of the places included under Bolton. Google maps is quite good if you are unsure of the geography (e.g., just where IS Tonge?), but I prefer paper spread out on the table. Ordnance Survey Landranger Map number 109 (Manchester, Bolton and Warrington) should be easy to get on Oz Amazon, and needn't cost that much. It has your places and also sets them in a wider context of south Lancashire, which I think is helpful.

Again, good hunting.

Angus, Fife
