Hi Sally/Christine,

Thanks for the look-ups. I don't have much more information to give
you than what was in my first email, except Lawrence appears to have
been born c1864 according to census. and that his surname is spelt
Mahin on the 1881 cemsus. But as the enumerator spelt his
stepfather's name as Robert Eves without the 'a' on the same census
then I'm not inclined to believe Mahin to be correct. I got the
spelling of Mayon from his mother's wedding certificate to Robert Eaves.
On the 1891 amd 1901 census Lawrence's birthplace is recorded as
Manchester.
These Mayon/Mahins are a mystery to me. Does the name sound Irish or
is that me just thinking of a connection with Mayo?
