Hi all

I have been searching for many months for a death of my Great Grandfather Richard Berry who lived in Walkden, Worsley and appeared on the 1901 census as still living there. I took a gamble and ordered a death certificate for a Richard Berry who died in 1901 Barton upon Irwell (walkden district at the time). The certificate has arrived and this Richard Berry died in Barton upon Irwell Workhouse. I'm confused now whether I have the right certificate because he hadn't been in a workhouse before. I've been having a look on the internet and it seems that Barton workhouse had an infirmary, could it be that Richard was sick and taken there because the family was poor and couldn't pay for his care and not that he was actually an inmate of the workhouse? Also I cannot find out where he was buried, could it be that he was buried where the workhouse was rather than back in Walkden where he was from? Was that the normal practice? If anyone has any information on this I'd really apprecia!
te it.

Thanks

Jamie
