Hi Robyn,
That's good news then. So the error was in the transcription. A similar
thing happened with me too as regards my gt gt grandmother. I knew exactly
the date her baptism had taken place as I inherited a lot of information
handed down in the family, but had never seen the entry, but when I saw the
transcription the date was different. I queried it with the OPC
administrator who put me in touch with the transcriber herself and sure
enough she had accidentally transposed the dates. Obviously too when her
transcription was checked they missed it too.
Regards
Sue

Hi Sue,
Thanks for your suggestion. In fact Paul contacted me with a copy from the
original register, which proved Joseph Barnes, father, was not deceased.
Cheers,
Robyn

Hi Robyn,
You can ask the administrator of the Lancs OPC site to contact the
transcriber to send you the photocopy of the original register entry. This
will show you whether or not it's a transcription error.
Regards.
Sue

Subject: [LAN] Thank You OPC BARNES Enquiry
Hello All,
Well as usual, it doesn't take any time at all on Lancsgen for help and
interesting information to surface.
I have thanked those personally, but to you all, Sally, Maureen, Gilly and
Paul, many thanks for your interest and quick response in confirming JOHN
BARNES's Father JOSEPH BARNES of Church, Manufacturing Chemist, was alive
and well at the time of his son's Marriage in 1839 at St. James Altham.
A small human transcription error, which happens to all of us, but in the
case of my BARNES ancestors, one can so easily take the wrong family, one
has to be absolutely sure.
In case anyone is interested in this line, MARY BATES wife of JOHN BARNES
was daughter of WILLIAM and RACHEL BATES of Openshaw, then Clayton le Moors.
JOHN and MARY BARNES lived in Bank Terrace Accrington in 1841. Two children
were born RACHEL MARY and JOHN EDWARD. Mother, MARY died young 1844 shortly
after her son's birth, thereafter JOHN moved to Spring Cottage Church, next
door to John's Father, JOSEPH BARNES, by 1861. His sister, CATHERINE
GREENWOOD was also living next door by 1871 in Plane Tree House, Church.
Both children were cared for by their Father and the BATES family etc. and
received Annuities from their Grandfather, JOSEPH BARNES in 1861 at the time
of his Death.
In some way JOHN EDWARD BARNES was to remain in need of care from birth and
thankfully, this family had the means to support him into adulthood.
Daughter RACHEL MARY married JOHN WILLIAM BROOME, Vicar of Holy Trinity
Church, Ashton Under Lyne for some years...son CYRIL BROOME born abt. 1879.
Cheers,
Robyn
