Whilst going through the burial records in St. Peter's Burnley, I recorded what seems to me, a rather high proportion of deaths of children under 12. In the six months between October 1st 1851 and April 30th 1852 there were 220 burials. I then checked Blackburn parish church for the same period and came up with 315! I know infant mortality was high, and I would imagine living conditions would have been harsh, but was there an epidemic or a particularly severe winter that could account for the figures, unfortunately the cause of death was not noted.
