Samuel's pension app states he served 2months at Ablemarle Barracks, guarding
prisoners from Burgoyness army and some tories, during the winter of 1777-8;
he spent 9 months during a second tour of duty 1178-9, which took him as far
as Hillsborough, NC but was transferred to guard duty became of a lame thigh;
a third tour followed a draft from his home in FLuvanna Co during the summer
of 1781;which lasted 2 mo and incl a march to Richmond , a retreat to
ablemarle Co and a drive on Jamestown.

Wm claimed service in Col Armond's cavalry in 1780, in a campaign NC but was
rejected for pension because he could not establish his militia service by
records. In 1835, in the papers submitted he states he had lived in Goochland
Co Va after the Rev War w/the exception of some ten yrs in Louisa and
Buckingham Co. He held 50 acr on Licking Hole Creek pur from Aaron
Parrish(the man whose substitute he had been in the war) in goochland in 1783.
