Subject: Marriages in New Orleans
Date: Mon, 29 Mar 1999 11:52:49 EST
In the US Genweb pages for Louisiana and Orleans Parish there is a look-up
volunteer who will provide marriages in New Orleans, however, the marriages
she has do not begin until 1870s. To get earlier marriages, I was advised to
contact the Genealogy department of the Public Library in New Orleans. I did
so and the librarian was very polite and helpful and told me how to obtain the
five marriage records they have for the REEB sur-name, however theirs only
begin in 1860s.
Can anyone tell me how I can obtain marriage records in New Orleans that will
cover the years 1840 through 1860s? Also can anyone tell me how to obtain any
church records from the Lutheran churches in New Orleans? I was given the
names of two churches and told by the clerks when I call them that I could
obtain copies of church records by writing to them. I was told that a
genealogist comes in once each week to look up records for written requests
etc. So months ago, I wrote but as of this date have not heard one word from
them. Is there a better or faster way?
Thanks for any help.
