I have "inherited" three unidentified photos which I think are the same
man. They were in a box in New Orleans with my grandparents' old
letters and photos Two were taken in New Orleans by these studios:

John H. Clarke's Photograph Art Gallery & Painting Studio
No. 101 Canal St. near Chartres
New Orleans

L. I. Prince, Photographer,
112 Canal and 8 St. Charles Sts.,
Corner Building over the Union Insurance Co.,
New Orleans.

The third one (probably the earliest) was taken by a Sandusky, OH
photographer and has written on it: "Taken at Johnsons Island 1864
while in prison," He is wearing a military uniform, obviously a Civil
War prisoner.

I looked up the New Orleans photographers in the phone book when last
home, and of course they weren't there. I didn't make it downtown to
find out if the buildings are even the same. What happens to the
records, negatives, etc. of a studio when it closes, and is there any
way of identifying this man? Does his prison experience sound familiar
to anyone? I know this is a VERY long shot. I hate to throw them away
and would prefer to give them to a descendant if possible.
