Subject: [LAORLEAN-L] German Population circa 1850
Date: Fri, 13 Aug 1999 01:04:57 EDT
Does anyone know if there was a large German emigrant population in New
Orleans in the mid 19th century? I would appreciate hearing about this
history. I am looking for information on a Bavarian family - HUBERWALD; and
a Prussian family ZINTGRAFF - known to be living and in business in Orleans
parish between 1850 and 1880. Julius Edward HUBERWALD was a druggist who
came to New Orleans via Antwerp on the ship Duc de Braband in 1853. Ernst
ZINTGRAFF was a merchant who married Frederika HUBERWALD. Other family names
are MARCHAND, KOENIG AND BLUMENTHAL. Any info appreciated. Sheila
