Oh, I forgot to add a little bit of what I did find on the UAOD ...
bottom line is they are a very old organization, having split-off groups
along the way. My original thoughts were that this must be some sort of
pagan group. In reality, it seems the order consisted of environmentally
conscientious people, before that was popular and politically correct in
some circles :} Their focus, as far as I could tell, was to have a
responsible attitude towards our environment, planet earth, and so on.
As with a lot of fraternal orders there was also a belief in God, strong
family bonds, and social responsibility. The environmental concerns is
what distinguished this order from the many many others that existed a
century ago.

My research on the group has been very limited .... I would be most
interested in the details of the New Orleans orders.
