Subject: [LAORLEAN-L] French Opera singer in 1903 Tunisia Algerie ?
Date: Sat, 27 May 2000 17:43:07 EDT
Hello,
I am new to genealogy and had the great opportunity this weekend to look in
one of those Box of genealogical treasures. An old box that my cousins had
hidden away in a closet for 30 years. Needless to say my research has been at
a holt while trying to figure where in France my BOREL name is from. Today in
the box, I discovered a ( what I would call) a news paper clipping , from
1903 , in French of an article about my ancestor ALICE BOREL and her being a
performer, what theatrical history she had etc. I made a copy but its so old
that where there were crease marks, I cant make out the words . It says The
name of the paper was Le Moustic(?) Bonis Orga?? des Theatres et concerts (
then it says) Pour L'Algerie & La Tunisie ( which means Algerie and Tunisia)
My questions:
Should I assume that my BOREL surname is from Tunisia since the performer was
there or ( in 1903) would it be common for a performer to travel to such a
place?
Does any one know in 1903 if there were many French population in that area?
How can I find more about the origins or possible genealogy to Algerie or
Tunisia?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
