There is an excellent series of books filled with such memories, New Orleans in the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's. by Mary Lou Widmer.

> I remember going to Pontchartrain Beach after church and dinner on Sunday with a friend with a blanket in a shopping bag. Sit on the beach and swim in the lake and walk down the run way.
> Walking to the Crown Show and stopping at Melba's on Franklin Avenue for an ice cream on the way home or walking to the Famous Show to see a musical on a Sunday afternoon.
