My grandfather (whom I never really knew), Henry Octave Toups, Jr., was
born in Thibodaux, lived most of his adult life in New Orleans, and
died in New Orleans on April 1, 1975. We were estranged from him and
his family there for most of our lives, so I don't have all the facts.
He and my grandmother separated when my father was one year old, but I
don't know exactly when they divorced or where - I assume New Orleans.
At the time of my grandfather's death in 1975, he was living with a
woman named Lorena Roger. She is listed in his obituary as his wife,
but my father says they were never married to his knowledge.
How do I go about finding out about a divorce and marriage in New
Orleans (I don't live there)? Where would I have to go or write to
(name & address)?
Also, how can I obtain information on sponsors, etc., on a Confirmation
in the Catholic Church in the mid-1900's in Plaquemine? Is this
information available to the public?
Thanks!
D.J.
