The feature story in the Living Section of today's edition of the
Times-Picayune announces: "Genealogists with soon have reason to
rejoice. Obituaries from local newspapers dating as far back as 1804 are
being indexed online by the New Orleans Public Library and the Historic
New Orleans Collection."

This project was begun last June and further states;
In the near future, genealogy buffs and others who want to search the
index won't have to sift through the huge collection (650,000) of cards
(and spend countless hours on their knees). They'll be able to search a
database on the library's web site at: www.nutrias.org

Closing paragraph states:
People can buy a photocopy of an obituary referenced in the library's
index by writing to the library's Louisiana Division and sending the
$2.00 fee. People who do not know the exact reference to an obituary may
request a search. The fee for that plus the cost of the photocopy is
$3.00.
